La Tierra Invisible – Viaje por Alaska junto al Fotógrafo Mario Davalos

My goal was to photograph grizzly bears preparing for hibernation; I failed. But my connection to the land was renewed and my photographic work re-focused.

In late October 2016 I headed to a barely known lake near the Kelly River in Alaska’s Western Arctic.

Watching bears in their natural habitat requires patience and respect. It is important to watch their body language for signs of stress, make your presence known and to always maintain safe distance. Let the bear decide if he/she wants you there or not. It you act with respect, most of the time they will allow you to witness their activities. I am currently boarding my flight from Atlanta to Seattle, where I'll spend the night before flying to #Kotzebue tomorrow morning. Stay tuned for images and stories of #thegreatarcticadventure
